Rana is an Associate in our Dispute Resolution Department at Horizons & Co, based in our Dubai office. She possesses extensive expertise in international and regional commercial, corporate, and employment as well as significant dispute resolution expertise. She has over six years of experience largely focusing on international commercial arbitration, investment arbitration, and litigation, resulting in an impressive understanding in supporting clients on disputes.

Rana represents high-profile international and regional clients across on contentious matters across the GCC and the Middle East, notably in Qatar, Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. She is highly skilled in drafting arbitral awards and submissions related to complex disputes in both international and domestic arbitration. Her expertise spans various sectors, including oil and gas, construction, and infrastructure projects. Rana also has significant experience in alternative dispute resolution, supporting clients in negotiations and out-of-court settlements.

Following a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Cairo University and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, Rana further advanced her legal education by obtaining an LLM in International and European Business Law from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 2019. Additionally, she completed an LLM II in Public Business Law and International Arbitration from the same institution.

A native Arabic speaker, she is also professionally fluent in French and English and excels at drafting legal advice and memoranda in all three languages, further enhancing her ability to serve a diverse clientele effectively.

  • A high-profile international telecommunications company on a USD 20 million investment arbitration claim advise against the state of Iraq for expropriation of investment in the state of Iraq
  • An international construction dispute filed by a major Investment company in Egypt against a Yemeni Oil & Gas Company in relation to a breach of contractual obligations. Co-attended CRCICA proceedings with Arbitrator Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf and assisted the arbitral tribunal in the drafting of final arbitral award.
  • An international construction dispute, filed under the auspices of DIAC Rules, by a major UAE real estate company against a UAE contractor, in relation to a joint venture agreement for the construction of a major leisure complex in the UAE, notably assisting the presiding arbitrator with the drafting of the final arbitral award.
  • An international commercial arbitration dispute filed by a Kuwaiti entity against a global Turkish contractor, in relation to a breach of an Agency Agreement and unlawful termination. Co-attended the arbitral proceedings held under the auspices of DIFC/LCIA with Arbitrator Dr. Mohamed Abdel Raouf and assisted the presiding arbitrator in drafting the final arbitral award.
  • The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities on highly complex and sensitive negotiations concerning a major touristic construction project in Cairo, at Gizah governorate and drafting of the service agreement ensuring compliance with Egyptian laws and regulations.
  • A French bank’s Kuwaiti branch on a KWD 30 million pre-dispute legal advice on stop-payment orders’ enforcement in the state of Kuwait and negotiation with the Ministry of Public Works in relation to liquidation of guarantees issued in favor of a global consortium.
  • Mowasalat Company on a high-profile bid for the provision of public buses and transportation during the World Cup period for the Ministry of Transport in Qatar for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
  • Multiple international clients on the enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards in jurisdictions including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
