Experience highlights
- On behalf of a UAE resident against charges of money laundering and tax evasion filed by Interpol on behalf of the Government of Norway. After a thorough trial before UAE onshore courts, the UAE criminal division of the Court of Appeal ruled in favor of the defendant. The court rejected the extradition request due to a lack of sufficient evidence and failure to meet the prerequisites of extradition procedures.
- On behalf of a UAE resident against charges of drug trafficking in an extradition request submitted by the Government of Belgium. Horizons & Co. presented compelling arguments and documents demonstrating that the extradition conditions were not met, as the charges had already been dropped by the Belgium government. As no new extradition request was filed by the Belgian authorities, the UAE courts rejected the request.
- On behalf of a UAE resident facing extradition by the Italian government on charges of affiliating with a terrorist group involved in drug trafficking. Due to a procedural error and subsequent overturning of the conviction by the Italian Courts, the arrest warrant issued by Italian authorities expired. As a result, the old extradition request was deemed invalid, and the UAE courts directed the Italian government to issue a new, valid extradition request.
- On behalf of a UAE resident facing extradition by the Italian government on drug trafficking charges. Filed an application to the Italian government for the withdrawal of the arrest warrant. As a result of our efforts, the extradition request was rejected by the UAE courts.
- On behalf of a Korean technology super-giant in a criminal investigation involving an employee who leaked information to competitors, violating Article 120 of the UAE Labour Law.
- On multiple commercial dispute cases on behalf of clients involving debtors and their personal and corporate guarantors. Additionally, represented clients against other companies that were supposed to pay funds to our client but had to be pursued through revenue assignments. The total value of these cases exceeded AED 700m. Successfully held the main debtor, along with the personal and corporate guarantors, jointly liable to pay the creditor for the facility.
- On behalf of a major industrial tycoon in the United Arab Emirates, in relation the restructuring of the company’s operations and the subsequent redundancies of staff. Unlawful claims bought against the company were dismissed in front the Dubai Courts.
- On behalf of a semi-Government company in relation to the termination and reporting of criminal activity to the UAE authorities connected to an employee accepting bribes.
- On behalf of companies and/or employees in the context of employment contracts including unjustified termination, end of service claims, employment accidents.
